I think my problem is that I have a brain but it's broken. I thought surely not potatoes because

1. Too slimy. Unless they added too much cream and butter to the potatoes they would soak up the butter.
2. Why would there be two kinds of potatoes on one dish.
3. Mashed potatoes aren't flakey.

They look slimey-wet. Green flakes don't help.
Potatoes are very forgiving but I am not...
