The mom might be black Wyandotte mixed with black Orpington bc we got her with a few black Orpington chicks. So you think I could tell whoever adopts him that he'll probably produce some chicks that look like him?Handsome boy! He's black with gold leakage. Do you happen to know what color wyandotte the mom's mix was? He probably carries the mottling gene (inherited from the jubilee orp father, if he had inherited mottling from his mom he would be mottled) and gold. I would expect most of his chicks to be black with some leakage and half of them to carry mottling.
beautiful already! Please post more pics when he is fully feathered out. I think he will be a stunner! The iridescence looks a lot like BJG or Astralorp may be in the mix/ I am unfamiliar with black orp - maybe they have that? This (11 wk old) cockerel is from a Jubilee Orpington rooster and a (maybe? mix?) black wynadotte/Orpington hen (last pic, she carries the mottling gene and has produced some black with white mottling chicks). He was very slow to feather, and his feathers are as iridescent as they look in the pics. The yellow showed up recently and we are very surprised. What caused this yellow patterning? What would I call his coloring and pattern? and does this give any hint as to the hen's genetics? Chicken experts and afficionados, can you give me the terms to describe this guy? And do you think his feathers are pretty?View attachment 3890380

I looked those up, they're so pretty! We've been out of town for a few weeks and he was just getting a proper gold rooster ruff when we left...I can't wait to see what he looks like now. I think I'm starting to understand the chicken math thing, bc this guy has me thinking about building a 3rd coop!beautiful already! Please post more pics when he is fully feathered out.
