I had a 50% hatch rate on khaki Campbell ducks shipped eggs, and they will be two weeks tomorrow.
I originally thought they would hatch around Christmas eve and they instead hatch day 26 on December 21, 2025.
I had 16 duck eggs, 8 successfully hatched and one passed away. It got waterlogged and had sprangles leg, I personally didn't think it was going to make it (I know this personally for I've raised and successfully hatch 100+ quail yet have 50+ living).
I've been raising quail since March 2025 and they were born around Easter time. I usually have hatches around holidays.
I had 13 quail hatch in the past 2 days and didn't expect it for most of them hatched day 16, I've never had a early hatch like that, usually day 17, 18, 19.
I've been putting the ducklings in a plastic tote with puppy pad and pine shavings and they get it drenched and dirty in a 2 day period. I've had them in a chick brooder box from tractor supply and they last 3 day before I have to change it again does anyone have advice what I should put them in without it getting messy in a couple days period.
I'm thinking on putting them in bigger mesh dog pen with puppy pad and pine shavings. When I get more cleaning wipes today (to finish cleaning the cage) when doing errands.
Should I expect this for my quails there cage would be fine for a week less than 2 weeks then they start shredding the puppy pads they learned that behavior from my guinea fowl and I have to clean it. I use pine shavings for my quail like to dust bath in it.
( I clean my poultry pens for I know as a fact animals like to mark territory with scent, I've done it with guinea pigs and a rabbit when I had them years ago. )

They're too young to tell unless you vent sex them. Ducks are relatively easy to sex by yourself this way, it's how I tell their gender early when I have ducks.

I've watched how to videos before even attempting.
Males will have a pale pink/white penis that will poke out most times(Sometimes they hold it in), females will have nothing poke out besides a smooth fleshy area.

Ducks are messy and nothing like baby quail or chicks. Yes, you should expect to clean their brooder more often, like a couple times a day. There are ways to cut down how much you clean and how often.

First, get rid of your chick waterer (assuming that is what you are using). Ducks are filter feeders and love to take a mouth full of water and then let it all run out of their mouth sifting out any food. Unfortunately, if they have a self filling waterer, they will keep doing it until the waterer is empty and their cage is soaked. Instead, get a rubber-made type storage container and cut holes in the top of it. The holes should be just bigger than their heads (but too small for them to get in the container.

Second, place the water on a low pan with mesh over the top to catch that water that they drool.

Third, give them as much space as possible. I prefer things with clear sides so they can see out. I have read that it prevents them from being scared of everything (but that is kind of in their nature).

Here are some of my past brooders. I hope it helps.
