Hi! I’m new to raising and owning chickens and loving it so far! My chicks are about 9 weeks now. When we picked them up we were told they were a barred rock and buff Orpington, but some suggest otherwise(which is fine with me bc I love them either way) I’m just trying to figure out what gender they are bc we can’t have roosters and would want to find a good home for them.

The barred rock definitely looks like a cockerel. The buff's comb is pretty red it looks like, but the picture isn't very clear....

Naw, from my experience that is much more a pullet barred coloring. Cockerels generally have brighter stripes, not as blended.
Not seeing any direct cockerel points on the orp either but not sure on it.

In Barred Rocks. Males tend to be more described as white with black stripes, females black with white stripes. Females stripes blend more and aren't as clear connected.

I don't know if that is a Barred Rock, I thought they had single combs, but if it is then it is a hen, it does not have double barring.

Here’s more pictures of their combs
