I can sooo see you doing that too. Shovel in hand, hollering at the top of your lungs.

I think Mandy's point was, this person is doing it over and over... *scratching head*

I honestly don't think it's rabid, though I told her to make sure she tells the F&G people that she thought it was (which she already had). It has been hanging around her place for quite a few months, and even has cubs nearby that my friend sees as well. Momma bobcat is teaching the babies to hunt, so that doesn't help either. I think it is mainly a case of the bobcat losing her fear of humans. If it had rabies I would think it would have shown obvious signs over the past few months.

She just recently got a gun but said she's only 'got' one possum so far. I told her to get a big cage and paint it black, then use a goose as 'bait'. The cat will be able to see the goose but not the cage until it is close. Hopefully, my friend is a good enough shot to get it once it's that close.

If the bobcat has been hanging around, she's called a/c or f&g & they only give her permission to shoot it, she shouldve done that already. doesnt she have any friends with guns (before she got hers)?
I know she has to feed her geese, but to know so much about the bobcat because it's been hanging around for a while...I'd have had it taken care of ASAP!
Please dont think I'm trying to be hard on your friend, but it upsets me that she's being pounced on, knocked down & now injured bad enough to need stitches--and she hasn't killed it yet!

I know, I kind of wonder about her sometimes

All I know is that she is a recent transplant to her area from the other side of the country. I believe she's only lived where she's at now for a few years. She lives with her parents and neither have guns. She did mention before that she'd spoke with a neighbor and the neighbor said s/he would 'take care of it' if s/he saw it, but obviously that hasn't happened. I don't think she really minded it hanging around until it started to become a nuisance, and she also mentioned (the last time when the bobcat knocked her down by hitting her in the back while she was entering the pen) that she hoped the neighbor didn't 'accidentally' get one of the cubs instead of the mother. Animal lovers...what are you gonna do?

Here in AZ, bobcats can be relocated by the property owner (with a recommended call beforehand to G & F)....we have after-hours dispatchers on call.

Bobcats are rarely infected with rabies, but any attack on humans is considered to be by those cats infected with rabies.

First mistake is allowing the cat to hang around to begin with if there's an easy source of livestock food....many here have cats that lounge in their yard under shrubs or decks or by pools, but it shouldn't be allowed if there's livestock on the property or if it conflicts with human daily activity. I have pics of cats lounging in the shade of eaves by sliding glass doors in the most upscale of areas. If they pose no issues on one's property, then winking at mom with kits is often suggested until they move on in a few weeks.

Having one that attacks a human takes it to a different level and I hope your friend has made that clear to G&F and also seeks treatment in that case regardless if ill informed otherwise....the difference between a claw & tooth is hard to tell when attacked, and not worth the risk of always fatal rabies.

Could there be a wildlife rehabilitator in the area that could help trap the female and cubs and relocate them? As much would have no issues to just shoot the mother, I'd be a sap about letting the cubs suffer starvation.

Its not animal control's job to come out and thin the wildlife on private property

Generally animal control doesn't deal with wildlife unless absolutely necessary. Fish and Game aka Fish and Wildlife deal with them. Its also no their job to come out and thin the wildlife on private property. What more do they need? She was given permission to shoot/trap it.

And now Animal Control did come out and set a trap and you're complaining because they only set ONE? Seriously?

There are private animal trapping and removal services in thephonebook. Tell her to call them. Animal control has gone above and beyond so far, seems like it.

Some one who is stupid enough to protect her birds. I go with the stupid lady. I'd be stupid enough to get in the way of a bob and my birds too. And as soon as I got the ok, i'd shoot the sucker.

Don't be so rude. Have some grace. If you can't say something nice, don't say anything.

if you're stupid enough to risk your life over a stupid bird, you can go help her. You need to get over yourself honey.
