That's a lot of bare skin to be a brood patch. My bet is that it's a molt.
One of our year old d'Uccles lost all the feathers on her underside this fall while her sister from the same clutch only molted a few feathers. It's a very individual thing. Poor Flash looked like she was getting herself ready for the roasting pan!
But she's all feathered out now again, so it's ok.
Yea I was looking and there is one person in North Texas selling fertile eggs around here. I don't want to pay shipping costs or go toooooo far to pick them up, with it being almost winter and I don't know how she will do. But I am going to try to find her an egg or two around here
I let my broody Australorp sit on unfertile eggs or 2 1/2 weeks, then I got some day old chicks from the feed store, and snuck them under her one night in the cover of darkness. Boy was she excited to have babies the next morning!!!
