I've moved first timers and I realize it's a risk but I do not trust geese around newly hatched ducklings. When it was just my gander and my Muscovy's he was wonderful with the little ones but once he got a mate and then the 2 goslings [who have grown up with attitude] no way can they be around ducklings or chicks.Shovel excellent idea. But remember this is a first time mommy. First timers are so iffy. Some are determined but most give up to early.
Best thing is getting mama situated before so you don't have to worry about anything. I learned to set mine up in their own lil safe house with plastic poultry fencing around it so mama and duckling have their own space for at least 3 weeks everyone can see them and no one gets hurt.
