What happens if you "ignore" someone?

You wouldn't be ignoring the entire thread, just that person's replies on that thread.

For example, let's say I love to post in Granny's Gone and Done it Again thread, and that ignored person posts there too (they don't, just FYI). All that means is I'll not see what they said unless I click to see it. So I'd never see it as I could care less what they said and won't click to see it. God forbid I would click to see it and then that might prompt me to reply, all defeating my initial purpose of just ignoring that person. Just leave it alone and scroll through the ones you CAN see.

You can ignore that person and just test it out and if you don't like what it does, you can click to unignore them.
Oh thanks for clarifying! That's highly interesting! It'd certainly help me to kick my eye rolling habit, 🤣

Thanks for this question and all the answers.

Keep in mind that if someone is so obnoxious that they deserve to be ignored, you might think about reporting them. They might get a time out as a result and hopefully come back with a changed attitude or at least improved behavior.

That probably depends on why you want to ignore them.

I agree that rule-breaking things should be reported (many obnoxious behaviors are against the rules), but a person might choose to ignore certain other posters because of something that bothers them personally without breaking any rules (writing style, post length, certain styles of of humor, etc.) That does not mean the other poster "deserves" to be ignored, just that one person chooses to ignore them.

Exactly. That one person I ignore may be totally acceptable to everyone else, but their harsh, cold, and unhelpful replies grate at me. They don't violate any rule, they just seem rude to me, and perhaps only me. Rather than allow that one person's replies to constantly ire me, I just ignore them. Problem solved.

First, I've never been accused of being cool and that's not one of my goals in life.

Second, what @NatJ said. I would report someone if they said something really mean or hurtful to another person, not just something I personally found a little rude or annoying. I don't really care if people are snippy to me, I'm a tough old bird and I can handle it. I can also either turn the other cheek or give as good as I get, as the situation warrants. But I have no tolerance for jerks and bullies here, and when someone blatantly or repeatedly breaks BYC rules, I'll say something. This is a nice place to hang out and I aim to help keep it that way.
