What happens if you "ignore" someone?

Curiosity ... well, you know.

I admit it. But, only about 1/3 of the time I've seen that one I ignored do I look to see what they wrote, but mostly because I see the OP replying to them defending themselves. Then I'll reply to the OP and stick up for them.

I don't use it because I'd like to think I have an open mind. There are 2-3 people who bug me, but one day they may have the answer I need or say something no one else did...

I ignored everyone in an entire thread once just to see what it did, and I then promptly forgot doing it. I think it was about a month later that I noticed a quote in a thread with one of those "show ignored post" thingamabobbies. So I clicked it, and whoa! All of a sudden there was a bevy of information coming every which way from people who'd been replying without me having the slightest notion of their existence. It took me a bit to unignore everyone. I'd missed some good posts for the sake of my stupid, forgotten experiment.
