They will. Anytime something is "new", they will avoid it until they are comfortable that nothing will happen to them. Once they get used to it, they probably won't want to come out.

i am a newlywed and have discovered that men don't listen and always think they are right.. mine thinks my duck is a dog and tried to rough house with my duck and my duck attacked him. that's what he gets. lol i kinda let duckie go for it. duckie never really gets mad on his own.. he has to be provoked to get mad. but duckie knew he was in trouble and walked right in his pen.
men will be men at least yours cared enough to try to make you happy
