what has been your greatest compliment?

DH compliments me often. I must certainly be some sort of goddess.

However, the compliment that struck me was one that was *1) unexpected and *2) a result of hard work, not my gene pool.

Grad school is brutal - all competition and egos. I nearly fell off my chair when a prof said:
"You are one of our best writers." It was a simple statement that meant the world to me.

I think it was when my 4 year-old DD told me, "You're my very best mommy and I love you!"

I'm her one and only mommy, so I'm assuming she just loves me!

She is truly a joy to have in my life and I feel so blessed to have her.

My favorite (not the best...):

I was picking blackberries with the kids.
I asked if they wanted to sing and my son (11) said no, but I could. I mentioned that I'm not the best singer and he said
"You're a great singer!" to which I asked "Really?!?"
My darling boy answered with "Well, yeah. I mean, you're not going to win American Idol, but you're okay.........."

My 4-year-old granddaughter tells everyone I'm her best friend, and now wants to marry me. I think that one is firmly in first place.

Someone also once said I'm "not quite as weird looking in person as I looked in my picture". My mirror disagrees with them.

My dad said, (to a gaggle of my aunts and cousins) "My boy is a Cheif in the Navy, and he can cook better'en any ah you crusty ole bats..." at a family get-to-gether when I was home on leave. They all ROFLTAO.

edit:
And I almost forgot my wife-to her friends, "...and I get breakfast in bed every weekend, and the days he's not at work....don't you?"

There are three compliments that are dear to me.

You're the nicest and most interesting person whom I've ever met.

You've the the most with so little.

When things get tough, I remember what you've gone through, and it helps me to keep going.

Whenever I can get someone to laugh, that is the most wonderful thing they could ever do or say to me. I live for it.

I get plenty of compliments on my girls, but I think they behave the way all children should.

So my favorite compliment was from a former professor of mine. I took several production management classes under him, which I did while also working in the apparel business in NYC. As he worked in the industry as well as taught, I kept in touch with him for several years. Right after I had started a new job, my boss and I ran into my former professor, who also was friends with my boss.

Anyhow, my professor told my boss he had hired the best man for the job (LOL- I'm a women) and that I was like a great warhorse who would faithfully fight through the most difficult situations.

Actaully now that I read it maybe it wasn't much of a compliment?!
