So today I did my daily surfing of the news websites and one article I found on alot them was disturbing to me. In bold letters "EGG YOLKS AS BAD FOR YOU AS SMOKING". Now I know they are high in cholesterol but as bad for you as smoking is a little overboard in my opinion. This just got me thinking about how now a days how it seems EVERYTHING is bad for you. To me it seems like people need to get back to the basics. Is it really all these things are now bad for you or is it all the preservatives and additives being pumped into everything. People used to hang there meat in sheds with ice blocks in the bottom and cover it in salt to "Preserve" it. The problem now is that dollar menus are readily available and sitting on the couch in the AC and watching TV shows about teenage pregnancy has become a way of life. People need to get outside and do more. I'm young (25) but even when I was young my parents would make me go outside and play with other kids. On the weekends you were up by at least 9:00am and at the table eating breakfast with the family. Then it was on to daily duties or just spending time with the family. Ok I am now stepping down from the soap box.

So right! I read that you would have to eat 5 eggs every day for years to effect your health much. Probably a bit overboard in the opposite direction but, anyway....with the amount of eggs I eat, I sure hope the article you read was way wrong!

I saw the same article a few days ago. Absolutely insane. Most journalists and media corps should be ashamed of themselves for the trash articles they cover, while ignoring real news that might matter to someone. Yahoo is really bad about that too. IMO

I agree you never see any good news on TV or the internet anymore. The world has become high speed but to me I feel we need to slow things down. Things that are important to kids now shouldnt be important. Cell phones, facebook, video games, etc. People use the excuse the world has changed and there are sick people out there but they have been here the whole time. When I was young there was always a parent around and they would get on me just as fast as my own would. Lazyiness is whats ruining the world.

I'm not saying its all bad. I'm saying things are to fast now. There have always been shootings there have always been overweight people and so on. I'm just saying as far as what is publicized is the bad stuff. I love this country and what it represents. Do I think its went down hill lately, Yes, but it is still alot better than some other places and I'm thankful for that. I just feel people need to shut off the cell phones, the computer, the TV and get some fresh air its good for you. Go outside be active do something, anything really. People don't talk to their neighbors as much anymore and don't get to know each other. Therefore assumptions come along and people don't even know each other. I don't know just feel people rush, rush, rush when really simplicity is the key.

Can we get a translator? I'm not sure I was able to get the gist of what your friend was trying to communicate.

He is talking about how the people he knows are upset with the idea that he is moving to the US. The only thing that makes news from the US is the shootings an border war so they think every cop is out to kill everyone. That the people that have been here know better but crazy, fat, killer Americans is what most think of us.

I about fell out of my chair laughing at that stupid report about eggs and smoking. It's complete hogwash. High cholesterol is a function of your genetics more than anything else. You can eat a fat free, even vegan diet and have high cholesterol and be completely unhealthy. My own thyroid malfunction caused my cholesterol to jump all over the charts, when, pre-whacko-thyroid, I had perfect cholesterol readings. I tried to fix it with a whole grain, oily fish, walnuts, etc, etc, a completely healthy diet, but it would not go down more than 2 lousy points. My doctor said they are closely linked and it was just in my genetics, that I would not be able to completely control it with diet as long as I was hypothyroid. I was not ever much of an egg eater.

My own DH has eaten at least 4-5 eggs daily for most of his life and never had a cholesterol issue--your own body makes cholesterol, for goodness sake, not to mention, not all eggs are created equal. They sure didn't address that in their little report, now did they? Guess they ought to interview my grandfather--oh, wait, they can't, he's dead. He was only 100 years old when he died, without any health issues other than hearing loss, eating eggs on a daily basis from his own chickens.

Some days, these news health reports are good for nothing more than comic relief.
