What hatchery do you order from?

I ordered first from Meyer. We got 8 chicks and 3 died right away. Not DOA but two on the first night and one in the first week. Out of the ones we had left they sexed a female wrong.
I tryed McMurray this year and lost 3 out of 30. Two were just weak and one could have been prevented beacuse it fell asleep in the waterer. If I ordered again, I'd go with McMurray. I got one supposed to be hen boy out of 30 there.
As far as birds dying soon I don't really blame it on Meyer, I didn't order as many chicks from them so I'm sure the extra warmth with McMurray helped.
But with Meyer they came a day late and McMurray came two days early.

I just got 9 healthy chicks from Meyer Hatchery. They are all active and cute...I will order from them again!

We had a great experience with Murray McMurray got the rainbow layer collection and everyone arrived safe and healthy they are a nice looking bunch of chickens and should start laying in just a few more weeks :)

I agree that predators need to be taken care of, but raptors and owls do us more service in eating mice, rats, voles and other rodents (over 60% of their diet) and that saves me money on feed. That way I'm putting it toward chickens and not little meadow critters. Additionally, sharp shinned and Cooper hawks spend more time catching sparrows than chickens, which also makes me happy since I have a hard time keeping them out of the feed too. If the price to pay is an occasional bird here and there, I'm willing to pay it. I can always hatch more chickens. Costs me less than feeding rodents and sparrows who don't seem to benefit my place any.

I had very good luck this year with Cackle Hatchery. Ordered Wednesday, birds arrived Friday!
We got RP turkeys and some Welsumers.
9/10 turkeys survived and thrived; 6/6 Welsumers.
These were healthy birds for home stock, which was the goal.
I would not order from a hatchery for show quality birds.
