What have I done!? Meyer's just called - END OF STORY ON PAGE 11

Birdie is dying right now.

Muffy is getting weaker.

Only Molly and Bob are doing well right now.

Here's how it turned out in the end:

Muffy, Bob and Molly are doing great. Eating, pooping and lots of drinking. They even will jump up to nip at our fingers!

Meyer's issued a refund for the chipmunk and Birdie. Well actually they call it a 'credit'. Not sure if that means credit to the credit card or store credit.

I will not get credit from USPS for the delay in shipping because according to Meyer's the service commitment of next day by noon does not apply to live shipments. Interesting huh?

Not sure if I mentioned it before but the heat pack was completely cold when they arrived Thursday so I don't have the trust in those anymore that I had before. I see 72 hour heat packs on the market for reptiles but I guess they aren't using those.

I might still end up expanding my flock of 3 to 5. I am talking to an Ameraucauna breeder just 30 miles from where I live!

Unsexed of course but very close in age and hopefully easy to rehome if they turn out to be roos since they are APA birds.

So that's the final verdict.

Thank you all so much for your support through this and sticking with me through me freak outs and ranting!

If your birds were shipped express mail and it says next day by noon, then it means next day by noon.

If you have the receipt then you can go to any post office and get a "service" refund. They just look it up in the system and it will say when the item arrived and can issue you a refund on the spot.

You know I might try that!
24 home sooner might have saved my chicks...

It's not true.

Did you happen to check the post mark/date on the package? Just curious if it was sent when Meyers said it was since they are saying the above and I've heard a few cases where they didn't actually send when they said they would.

Yes, I agree-just because Meyers 'said' they sent it out on a certain date, doesn't mean they actually did. I'd go to the PO and try for a refund, also.

Where in Texas are you located? I have always ordered from Ideal just because they are here in Texas. Not to say that I haven't had problems with chicks... but they do straighten it out with no problems. I just figured start with the closest place, less time to travel, less weather change, etc. Sorry about your babies.

Thanks. Yes, I did try to order from Ideal but I asked for NO peanuts because I wouldn't have known what to do with the peanuts. And they said just 5 birds by themselves wouldn't survive.
So I thought the overnight and heat pack option from Meyer's would be the best/safest option.

The final word on the Express Mail refund:

yes, my package did not meet the service commitment and guarantees, therefore it would qualify for a service fee refund through the USPS however here are the specifications to get the refund:
Delivery Time / Late Delivery Refunds:

* The guaranteed time is the local time at the recipient's address.
* An attempted delivery meets the delivery commitment (i.e. the package was taken to the address, but the recipient was unavailable to accept the item)
* Postage refunds may not be available if the delay of the item was caused by specific reasons beyond the control of the United States Postal Service

.
* If delivery (or attempt) is not made by the stated date and time:
o The sender will need to contact a local Post Office to apply for a refund.
o The original customer label will be needed to file a claim.
o The sender must make a refund request with 90 days of mailing
.

So since I am not the sender and the sender won't file a claim there will be no refund of service fees for a delayed Express shipment.
