What have you repurposed while building ?

I made a thread, but let me show off this again, since I'm proud of what my father and I have done.

We had an above ground pool once. But then a rather silly mole dug through the liner. This part of the deck was the last thing we had. I'm glad we kept it! It's made the two coops we got into a Mega Run!

We haven't added my girls yet, but I'm excited to see how they like it!

Nice!
It looks like you can move it around the yard too. The curve makes it interesting :)

I don't know if we could move it unless we broke it down. And it has the electrical outlets under the deck, too, so I think it'll stay put for a while. ;)
But yes! I love the curve, too! I definitely like to see coops and runs that aren't like all the others ❤

I repurposed lumber and roofing materials from neighbors projects and built an extension onto our coop yesterday.

The end section measures just over 4' x 4'... extending our coop to 4'x12'. Our girls have plenty of room to roam under the coop and it is easy to clean out. Eventually I will add a door to the front of the extension to match the other doors. I need to fill the gaps around the edge but it is waterproof which is what I needed. I will be adding a roost that goes the length of the coop at some point. There is currently a 5' roost at the highest point in the coop in the original side.

Next I am expanding(by 300sqft) our secure run with reclaimed goods from neighbors as well. The only thing that I need to purchase is the aviary netting for the top and the concrete for the support posts. Will have various roosts and swings for them in the new run.

The zipties in the netting are from last winters snow storms. We had roughly 18" and it just piled up on the netting. I had very little support for the netting as it was never an issue previously. This will be rectified with the new setup!

I thought this would be an interesting thread for everybody could share what they have repurposed While building a coop and run or just anything for their chickens. Great way to gather and share ideas for less waste in the world, way to save money and a way to get the imagination flowing. I am huge on re-purposing anything. I’ll see something just sitting on the side of the road or at a job site in my imagination goes wild. I’m bringing home stuff all the time. I’ve been called a scavenger once or twice:oops:.
So share what you have reused or re-purposed. Added pictures are great but if you’re anything like me you have a hard time loading them
My hubs turned a shipping crate into a small coop :) I used up paint, nails, plexiglass we used for windows, buliding supplies we already had leftover from house projects.

That looks really good! There will be lots of activities to keep the chooks happy too.

I always feel a little uneasy about the guillotine style pop doors though, just in case the rope breaks as a hen is going in or out. If you don't mind me making a suggestion, what do you think about drilling a small hole through the frame and door to insert a bolt through when it's open? Just for extra support?

:lauThis is so me!

I made a post hole digger cradle after drilling new holes for the improved run. Scored three (3) dog kennel panels to add to and improve the run.
Mounting and un-attaching the post-holer is a real PITA.

Uprights are an oak pallet that was used for a machine delivery to a local business. It was broken in the middle of one side. Cross ties and stretchers were brick pallet tie down members, also oak. Tie down straps aren't really needed but I like a little extra security.
Now I can attach the unit quickly and easily and not hurt myself. :fl
