1. Read all the sticky's in each section under the index. There is so much information in them
A.Make sure that any new chickens brought in are kept quarantine for 30 days
B. Chickens do NOT get colds they get viruses and these are not treatable with antibiotics, If they do recover they will be carriers for life. Which means any birds or eggs you sell could infect another persons flock.
B 2, Don't just throw antibiotics at everything that just makes super bugs. Get some test done know what you are fighting first.
C. If you do have a sick bird look for your state vet school or even a local vet can point you in the right direction.
D. If you don't cull your flock after an illness that makes them carriers please let anyone buying eggs or chickens know that this illness is in your flock. I don't want to bring it back to mine. Thank you
2. Make the search button in the blue bar your best friend, if you get to many post refine your search until you find what you need
example, soft shell egg, worms, mite/lice there is a bunch of different post about these topics
3. If you can't find an answer post your question but don't get mad if someone doesn't post right away others are posting at the same time and a post can get lost. While waiting for someone to post do some more searching. Be patient.
4. It is hard to tell the breed of a chick when they are very young since so many breeds look alike as chicks
5. When hatching your own eggs or getting chicks from the straight run bin Have a plan for the roosters. Remember most rooster will end up as dinner
6. The Mods work really hard to keep this a family friendly site please be nice even if someone does not believe that same as you Respect other peoples beliefs.
7. The post I use the most for managing my flock was written by speckled hen.
