What if I forget to turn?

Only 1x a day, even tho I remind myself . . .

Im coming up on 96hrs.

I found it easiest to turn as soon as I woke up ---I let the dogs out and go turn eggs while they were out of the way
And last thing before bed -- I put the dogs to bed (their crates) and then turn the eggs right before I went to bed

I think connecting it to an activity that I'm already in a habit of (letting the dogs in/out) helped me remember. By lockdown I was trained to get up and go turn the eggs every morning. I kinda miss it!

Right, I understand.

But still, I forgot . . .

Im tryin to candle, and all my eggs show a clear bottom half and just darkness for the upper half.

My built in bright candling light failed, and I just have a little old flashlight . . .

what day are you on and how dark are the eggshells?

You will still get some to hatch, best to turn 3 to 5 times aday for best hatch rate. eggs not turned enough form full chicks, but have trouble getting out of the egg.

I have never forgotten to turn because I only have auto-turn incubators but - when candling eggs, any which are dark at the top and have a clear space underneath turn out to be dead and decomposing, except once when there was a clear space all round because the eggs had dried out in insufficient humidity. (happy ending tho as I hatched them myself and saved three out of four, all girls). If you don't have auto-turn, the linking to another activity idea sounds a really good one. Better still, use a broody hen because she turns them loads and you never have to think about it.

Only just saw you were only on 4 days - not enough chick to make a dark shape so probably just the shadow of the yolk. Try using the flashlight from different angles. At 4 days, not turning enough is probably not that crucial.

For those that forget to turn, there is a way. But it has its draw backs, but will not fail you. But 2 day old chicks and put them in with the eggs. They will be good for a week, then you need to replace them with 2 new chicks, repeat once more for the final week..
