What if I got them drunk, would that ease their final moment?

that got me thinking I wonder what booze I would use, I guess white wine would taste good. Then I started picturing them with a sombrero eating and drinking Sangria

That's probably what you can expect if you give your chickens alcohol. I think I'll keep booze out of the picture altogether when I butcher. I don't need to slip when I make a cut and I don't need the chicken's head rolling all over the place when I'm trying to get him to hold still.

I actually laughed when I read this thread! Great stuff. I don't think it would have any effect on the meat, especially if you were killing them right away. I don't think it would necessarily do any good though, since the birds have no idea what's happening until the moment you kill them anyway (since they've never seen a horror movie, presubably.) Pain isn't really the issue, as I don't think the birds feel much pain with most killing methods, and since they don't know what's about to happen anyway, there really isn't much point. If it weren't for the fact that you'll be using sharp instruments, I'd tell you to get yourself drunk to calm your nerves about doing it, but alcohol and knives aren't really a good combination!

On another note, you might want to consider that giving them booze could poison them as well, which probably is a worse death than chopping, and I wouldn't like the idea of eating a bird that died of poisoning.
