What is a good (or bad) dog breed to have around chickens?

OMG Steve, I have one of those, too!!!

My chicken came 6 years after my mean, vicious, evil pit bull, but with some stern (not ABUSIVE) training, he's just fine with him now

It's not about the breed, it's all in how you handle/train them. Best of luck...

My pugs (all rescues) would never even think of hurting anything, including chickens. My pug Buttercup likes to come in to my brooder room and watch the chicks run around, and the most she's ever done is sniff one. She is more interested in the chick crumbles! My pug/terrier mix, however, is another story...

Thanks so much for all of your replies! I learned quite a bit. We now have an 8wk Miniature Australian Shepherd puppy, and are hoping for the best. Now to learn how to train him. We've been acclimating him to the hens, but on a leash so far.
