have found that this breed does NOT breed true.

Cockerels have white spot on their heads when hatch. They become blue barred later, not solid blue.
I have actually found that not to be true (with my stock anyways) I have two very light chicks and two very dark chicks. One of the dark chicks had the dot but none of the light ones did and they are both going to be roos I think. Even when you are breeding these gems, I don't think you are getting "gem" chickens. You are just getting variations of them. I look forward tot he coming years when more people are breeding them and we are getting full grown chickens out of them. I think then we will understand what they need to be bred with to get the sapphire gem look.

Dear, they are a commercial hybrid, a product based on layer strains of plymouth rocks in a blue sex linked way. They lay pinkish brown eggs of a large, extra large and jumbo size, they forage better than other hybrids and they burn out later than other commercial hybrids.
They do not breed true n color.

Dear, I know they do not breed true because I have bred them myself. That is what I have been saying and why you can not necessarily base it on color when sexing.

SGs should be sex able at hatch from the barring gene or lack of.
They are a hybrid sex link. Once you breed two SGs together they're no longer SGs or sex linked.
Some of this confusion is because Thomas is from Greece and is dealing with the true original stock.
Over here in the states we are dealing with what Hoover's started selling and labeling SGs.
Hoover's said they imported original parental stock eggs for their breeding program.
Something is amiss with what they have or were doing because they were producing non barred males last year and this year they're showing birds with red leakage which also shouldn't be there.

The mother company is dominant CZ. Gold leakeage is because of splash color. Splash color can hide everything.
I have created a thread about utility black leghorns.
I need your help.
