Yep, those definitely appear to be red sex links. I'm thinking they are a new "brand" of red sex link. I'll have to see if my TSC gets them in.
Ok, wait a minute. I see from Tetra's website they are Tetra Americana not Ameraucana. There a big difference. The first is just a company name the second is an actual breed of chicken. So these Tetras from TSC are a company bred chicken not an Ameraucana breed chicken. The people who made the sign at TSC wrote the wrong name because I suspect they are pronounced very close to the same.
Yeah, I figured I just have cross breed "mutt" chickens. I had read about the confusion (sometimes purposeful) between the labeling "Americana" and "Ameraucana." That's fine for us as this is our first foray into chicken keeping and we weren't looking for a special breed. I'll be happy to just have healthy hens that give us plenty of good eggs. But I think TS or the hatcheries should be a little more clear about it.
Hi, i don't think tetra Americana's of any color are mutts. I think they are a commercial crossbreed in poultry for the general public. There's a big difference . Mutts are just mixed breeds. Tetras are specially crossbreed from specific breeds for a specific purpose. That purpose being a reliable chicken for the general public. Read the Tetra Americana website, it's interesting.
