What is brooding? (And what is a duck brooder?)

As the title implies, I'm not too sure what duck brooding is. I've seen a lot of Youtube videos where the owners have brooders for their ducklings and as I'm thinking about getting myself a pair of Pekin ducklings, I would love to know. I'm confused because I thought I would just need to buy a coop and that would be it.

PS. Sorry if this has been answered in another thread but I can't seem to find any good information about this.

A brooder is where you would keep chicks. A broody is a duck or hen that wants to hatch a clutch of eggs.

Two more things, how long should I keep the ducks in a brooder and do I even need to have a brooder. (eg. Can I put my ducklings in a coop straight away?)

I personally have never raised ducks but I’m sure the same rule applies for them as it does chicks. I kept my chicks in the brooder until all of their adult feathers were in. So I wouldn’t put them in a coop yet. make sure you have a heat light!

Yes...They require heat on one side of the Brooder so they don't get cold. Feed and water in a no spill dish. Ducklings are very messy with water. Depending on temperature outside they can be moved to a Coop/Run by 3 weeks.

I'm not sure why you cant find information on here about broody. There are tons of threads about it. Just go up top here and type in broody or brooders in the search bar. Or just go to Google and type it in.
