I currently have 2 Toms- a bourbon red and a royal palm that I love to death. I raised both from eggs and they are very spoiled. I lost my 1 gal last year after a fox got her. I currently have a few babies that I hope I will get at least 1 or 2 girls from for girl friends for the boys.

Anyway, I came into the barn yesterday morning to feed everyone and find "Bourbon" sitting on the floor not moving. He was dead weight when I tried to get him up. I finally move him and see he is sitting on a duck's nest of eggs that he had rolled out to a more convenient spot for him. Mamma duck was peeved to say the least! I managed to move him off and return her eggs to her.

Last night the same thing happened !!!When I rolled her eggs back to her this time she flew at me- so much for gratitude

Why of why is he doing this ??? Do Toms take over some of the brooding duties in the wild?

Good Morning! I do not have turkeys, but I think its cute that he wants to help. I do have ducks and I know that mommy duck can get pretty nasty when it comes to her eggs. Maybe next time he does this try replacing the duck eggs with some of those fake wooden eggs or golf balls. He may not notice the difference and both can be happy. Maybe someone else with more turkey experience can help.

Well I knew this morning when I did not see Bourbon, where he was. Sure enough- back on the nest of eggs.Mama duck was very agitated that he would not move off the eggs

His buddy Stouffer tried to get him off and pecked his head

He stood his ground and ducked his head for cover. Mama duck got the heck out of the way of the fighting.

I think I will just leave him alone and let him get this out of his system.....lol.....
