Could you be loosing your hens to a hawk or an eagle? It is bad enough loosing them , but to not know why would be very frustrating!

I have a Moultrie 4MP Infra-red game cam that captures any movement in the coop area 24/7.

I always know everything that visits the coop/feeding area. I would strongly suggest it for any chicken owner with predator issues.

This way you alays know what you're dealing with and the camera has a time/date stamp with temperature and moon phase for learning the predators visit times and tendencies for easier removal.

It's actually very simple to use. Not much more difficult than a regular camera. It also has a SD card slot, so you don't have to take the unit down to review pictures.

It runs on 6 D batteries and that particular model can take thousands of pics on one set of batteries. I haven't changed my batteries yet in 8+ months!

It takes perfect daytime shots and doesn't use a flash, it uses infra-red at night, so to not disturb the visiting predator and is motion activated.

My model retails for $199 at walmart although other places try to soak you for up to $250 for them.

For an example of my pics, see my BYC page! Best investment I made in my ongoing fight with predators and it also catches great shots of other wildlife that happens by.

There are cheaper models out there as well although read the reviews for their shortcomings. Some run through batteries very fast.

Wow, that sounds pretty high tech, how muc does one of those run?

The other thing I'll say is the camera takes great natural pictures of your chickens and other wildlife as well as it doubling as a security cam if you want to point it at a garage or house or a trouble area where you've had vandalism or thefts.

It sounds like the infa-red camera would be a good investment, I'll have to investigate a little...Thanks Bluey
