I have read the threads on goose laying eggs but I am still not sure what is right. Our goose, no idea how old she is but probably young, has laid 4 eggs one ever 2nd day. Yesterday she sat on the nest quite a long time but no egg. She got up and started acting normally eating etc. I did notice the the last one did not appear "clean# I do not know how to describe it. She lay only 4 eggs and since early afternoon she has been sitting in the nest. It is 20:25 here in South Africa now.

Is it possible that she is only going to have these 4 eggs? I feel so bad we did not expect any eggs so we are totally unprepared. We managed making her a nice nest, but I am very nervous as I do not know a lot, only what I have read here.

I am so worried about my baby! Sorry if I am incoherent.

Have you taken the eggs up? Do you have a gander? do you want goslings?
Not every goose egg laid will be clean could be something in the bedding usually poop that gets on them. She may start back laying again any day now they do have to take breaks to replenish the calcium they need to make those hard eggshells. What are you feeding her? Do you offer oyster shell.

Thanks. I have picked up the eggs, they feel normal. I have a gander and he is the problem why I cannot have a properlook at her he is very aggresive. That again is a long story. We are feeding them the only food we can find and that is duck pellets. The conditions are not so that I can separate him. I have been searching but cannot find oyster shells. I am basically in the city on a small holding, it is difficult to describe the situation. I do not speciffically want goslings I just thought it would be nice for her to have a few. They have been eating a little Kale for a while, only about one small leave each a day as a treat. Can that be a problem?

Thanks it seems I have been paranoid as usual there is another egg and she is up and eating and drinking. It is just that I am so clueless. I have watched a lot of videos and read up a lot but I still feel very unsure. We did not conciously "got" they were here when we moved in here

Ganders are very protective, boy mine sure is. And he will be if any goslings hatch. They take their role as papa goose very seriously. lol. I’m sure duck pellets are fine since ducks are waterfowl. If you can get some oyster shell or maybe a calcium supplement but then you’d be feeding it to the gander as well and that wouldn’t be a good idea. My gander nibbled the oyster shell when I first put it out but that was a long time ago. He doesn’t even look at it now. Give yourself a bit of time. We learn a lot from here on BYC and our experience with our birds too. We are always here to help.
