I have a 1/2 acre lot in town with a 6' fence around it. My wife and I would love to have a few ducks but I am concerned about noise and whether they will fly over the fence into the street next to my house. In addition I have a long section of fence along the public side walk so many people walk right along my property. I was thinking a Pekin?? Any suggestions?

Pekins are a good choice. just about any duck you get will need it's wing clipped to keep it one the ground. Unless, you have the top fenced too. Muscovies are really quiet, the males hiss and the females peep. That's all they can do. Pekins can quack but it's a low tone quack. Pekins are also easy to train into pets, they are very curious and always interested in treats.

I hope this helps you some

I have blue swedish and khaki campbells in my 3/4 acre yard. We're not in town though. My female blue swedish is very loud. The khaki campbell female quacks but not nearly as loudly. The males are both very quiet with an enjoyable little noise they make.

Pekings females are loud and very good beggars. The males do not quack, but are kind of raspy and quieter. But be forewarned that ducks make lots of poo and will make holes (that look like rodent holes) anywhere the water pools on the ground.
Let me add that my DH does not care for the ducks but I love them and all their antics...Just make sure you have only one male to 3 females if you keep a small flock. The males can be quite aggressive to each other and the females if the numbers are off. That being said, females can physically reject any male (via mating organs) that she does not find suitable and can frustrate the male enough to be aggressive.

Muscovys! They are quiet. They don't dab in the mud as much as other ducks! They don't need water to swim in, but do enjoy it sometimes. They are really good at bug patrol.
Only down side they do fly some, mine only fly around my place, not really that often,
but you could clip their wings!

I have a concrete one, it bothers no one, and has never flew over a fence, in fact we left it in the car for 3 days without food or water, and it came out of that ordeal just as good as she did going in. (I think it is a she)

I have 3 different breeds in a small suburban lot. The loudest is the buff duck. OMG She has a mouth on her. My runner female is fairly quiet and my khaki hen wasn't very loud either. The drake makes a peepy quack...not loud at all.

Khaki's and runners fly like bricks and a 6' fence is perfect to keep them in the yard. I even have a section with a gate only 3' tall and they have never shown any interest in going anywhere. With these two breeds, you wont have to clip wings.

They also lay a lot of eggs. Nothing like a fresh duck egg for breakfast

Like previously stated, if you have a drake, he needs 2-3 girlfriends. And they DO get aggressive if a female rejects them. My runner is not a fan of my drake. He chases her when she wont squat for him.
