I would like to get my Silkie rooster Dominic and one of my EE hens Bailey to have babies. What is the best way to get Dominic to mate with Bailey? Do I seperate them from the others? What do I do? Here are pics of them.

Maybe a little wine and soft music? Seriously, and I am a complete greenhorn, but separating them seems to be the best way . . . as that would keep them together and no chance of another fella having his way with her, or the rooster you want to use being too busy with the other ladies. . .

If you want a hen to be mated only by a specific rooster, you have to seperate out all the other Roos. Then wait at least 3 weeks to get eggs that are only from the intended Rooster.

I'm sure wine and music wouldn't hurt either...

Private quarters does do a better job of seeing that the job gets done. But in general if she's ready to breed he should be getting at her just fine on his own. Is he crowing and otherwise acting like a roo???

I give mine their own little chalet and put on a little Barry White music!!!

If she's ready, he should be courting here already...I just keep mine separate so I know what the eggs are coming from!
