What is the best way to hatch shipped eggs????

And you can PM me anytime. .my first set ever my thermo was off and my Temps were a few degrees low..by day 22 with no pips I was flipping..PMing anyone and everyone one this site..finally got pips on day 23 (late in the day) and everyone had hatched by day 25 late..I went to the pet store and bought a digital thermo and hygro for reptile tanks that same day..there is no substitute for a good thermo and hygro when incubating imo

Sorry, it got lost in my ramble..lol..
They came from Linda Rohleder at Twin Maple Ranch.. she's on Facebook under her name(not the farms) and her email is [email protected]

She has GORGEOUS birds and is a joy to work with.. Very nice woman... And did I mention??? 18++ eggs and NOT ONE arrived with a messed up air cell.. She puts as much effort into packing her eggs as she does her birds and it shows

**edited to add.. These eggs were shipped a short distance..PA to WV.. No amount of packing will guarantee perfect air cells on all eggs.. I have had eggs packed just as well and just a little further away and they were awful.. It depends on handling, weather and so many more uncontrollable elements **

Great info here!

I just set 12 silky eggs this morning that were shipped from KY to WI. I let them sit out about 36 hours upright in egg cartons before I put them in the incubator. I have them on their sides though, and I do the turning. Is that not good? How long should I wait until I start turning them?

This will be my first experience with silkies also. Sounds like they might be a little tougher to hatch than others?

I have two shipments of Mandarin duck eggs. The first had saddle cells and other than one infertile, all the others grew to term and are in lockdown with tomorrow being day 28.
The second shipment one broke, two were clear and the rest had rolling air cells but are developing fine. I have my fingers crossed!

This is my first time incubating and they were shipped eggs. I go into lockdown tomorrow, so I don't know my results yet. What incubator are you using? I let mine sit for 12 hours before putting them into the incubator. Then I cut out egg cartons and put them in the incubator in the cartons. I left them alone for 12 hours. Then for 3 days, I just tilted them in the carton from one side to the other, 3xday. I've definitely learned a lot this go round. I have more eggs being shipped next week and I think I will act according to air-cell. If air-cells look good, I'll lay them down and hand turn. If not or questionable, I'll do the cartons again.

What day is it for the second shipment? Have the rolling cells, reattached?

The second shipment with rolling cells is on day 16 (standard colored mandarins). They have not reattached, but the embryos are looking fine and moving! I will just place them in an egg carton or tiny Dixie cups slightly tilted to one side for lockdown so the air cell stays at the top of the egg and slightly dipped. Right now I'm completing day 28 with my white Mandarins with saddle air cells. They should begin around midnight if they're anxious to come into the world, or if they' care to sleep in then tomorrow I'll start watching for activity. It did seem during the entire incubation that they were developing at different rates so I don't expect everyone to hatch in unison. I'm just worried about them being able to internally pip at the right place since the wait cells are saddle shaped.

Yes, I understand your concern. Some people have had great success hatching saddle air cells, some haven't. Please keep us posted on how it goes!!! I need to see pics of baby ducks!!! :)

My shipped eggs are on day 7. The four that had detached air cells still seem detached to me (I'm new to this), but two of them seem to have something developing. There is just a dark area in the egg, I'm guessing this is a good thing. Of the 6 that had what I thought were good air cells, only 2 appear to have anything developing.

I'm bummed. Like, really bummed. I know I shouldn't have had such high hopes for shipped eggs on my first incubation, but I couldn't help it. I really wanted Blue Laced Red Wyandottes. I've posted a question in my state thread (Vermont) but I don't think there are very many people in my area. Hoping that I might find someone remotely close to me who has chicks or eggs :) In the meantime I'll keep crossing my fingers for these little eggs to do something.
