What is the best way to hatch shipped eggs????

How high do you normally go on lockdown with humidity? I run 30% (average) 1-18. Then this last time I was 75% on lockdown but everyone looked really good coming out.

If I just fill the trays and let it be, I hit 50/60%.. which for me I think is where I should stick ..but I get worried and add wet sponges and that pushes me up to 70+% ..
But in my incu (I use 2 separate machines) it stays right at 25-32% through days 1-18

Ok, so the "wet looking pip" just hatched...definitely not a humidity issue. .I didn't get in there and look good, but the egg had a brown looking gunk on the inside, and the chick has what looks like intestine hanging off its back end. I know this sounds horrible, but if it's going to die, I hope it just lays down and goes..I really don't want to have to cull a chick today.

Not the best pic, but this is the chick..

This is the egg and another chick that has been beside this other chick from Day 1..

That blood?,fluid? whatever it is under that egg is what I thought was from too high of humidity but with the others hatching fine, I think there's way more to it than that..

Yes, I can see the brown fluid. Poor guy. The down side to hatching. I hope he doesn't suffer much. Keep me posted on what happens!

I culled him..he wasn't going to make it, I think he ruptured his yolk a good few hours before pipping and that was just the start of his issues. More intestine came out and I figured it was kinder for me to end it than another hatchling pecking them and really causing him pain.
It is always hard and truthfully I hope it never gets easier ...I never want to loose compassion for them.
On a better note, all but 3 have hatched, one is zipping and the last has pipped ♡♡

Hey CrazyChickenLady81, how's yours coming along?? I'm on day 5, I did a super quick candling, when adding water this morning. 12/15 are developing nicely!! I'm so excited! I have a question for you. I haven't turned them or even touched them in 5 days. Do you think I should lay them on their sides and start turning them "x" & "o" style or tilt them? I have them in individual cut down cardboard cartons. If you suggest tilting, whats the best way to tilt? Is tilting enough to really "turn" the egg for development purposes??

My auto turner just 'turns' in an exaggerated tilt, so I would think it would be okay. If their air cell is okay, it's perfectly fine to lay them on their side although I do shipped all upright.
With my peas, I have them on their side in an egg carton and I rotate them from side to side and also 'roll' them 180° a few times a day
As long as you don't roll them the same direction every time, either way or a combo of both should work just fine.
I haven't candled mine yet, but I will go take a peek in a few and let ya know the results

I'm so undecided on which way to go. Lol! I am happy that I stayed completely hands off for 5 days, though, cus they're looking good! :) Yes, please tell me how yours is doing!! I took my water out because I am going into the 50's with only a toothpaste cap of water in there! Dry is running 40%...nice!

Just checked some of mine after being gone for the holiday weekend. (Day 11) Some I still can't tell, a few more seemed to have quit and I see some blood "pools" in a few eggs. Was able to see some moving embryos though, and that was really cool.

Humidity steady at 40%, and it looks like the pump didn't use too much water while I was gone. Luckily it's been cooler and wetter this spring which is rare for this area. I know my altitude (5000 ft.) is another strike against the eggs, but here's hoping for at least a few to hatch!

I'm leaving all the eggs in until Thursday when I do my day 14 candling - as long as nothing seems to smell funny in the incubator.

Glad to hear its going good! As long as nothing smells, I leave mine in too. Last time I had 2 red rings & 2 clears. I left them in until around day 16, and they were fine. I've read stories here and there about people being wrong and ended up having a viable egg, so I like to wait if I can....just incase...high hopes, I guess!
