What is the best way to put a cat to sleep?

I am in a position where I could help some. Where is your vet and how much is the charge? I would be willing to call them with some money toward the fee. I don't have unlimited funds but I also have enough that your pet should have to suffer, because of your finances at the moment are limited. If a few of us could help this can taken care of very quickly.

I am so sorry that the time has come to let your cat go. You are clearly a loving owner to your cat, and I am sure that the cat will be missed.

But a quick dose of reality - you are talking about a living creature here, one that you have cherished and loved for many years. You owe this cat a humane death.

Cancel your internet and take the money to the vet to have the cat put down. Skip a payment somewhere. Eat rice for a week. Find a way to scrounge up the money, please!


I do NOT want to come across as a nasty person. But the cat is a living, feeling being. Name your priority.

Years ago I was incredibly broke and my cat had to be put down. We took her to the humane society and had her euth. I had to surrender the cat but it was better than having her suffer.

Someone mentioned not being able to get another animal from the HS if you did that. Honestly, that's not the priority. Plus, there are a million ads every week in the paper and Cl and what not looking to rehome animals for when you are ready to get another pet.

Do what 's right for your cat, now.

Here our human society only charges $5.00 to put down a dog I would call your human society and call around different vets and see if you can find one to either take payments or do the euthanasia for a reduce price. Good luck I am sorry that you have to go through this.

If you are a long time client of a vet, call them. My vet has never asked for payment at the time of putting a pet to sleep. They always mail the bill several weeks later. They also either send flowers or make a donation in the pets name.

Otherwise contact the shelter or a rescue group, even other vets that work with those groups, and ask for help.

You could also try some baby aspirin on the cat. It would help it with the pain until you can do something more. 1 baby aspirin every 4 hours.

It is good to know that there still vets that will bill you. I haven't known of a vet in the area where I live that has had a policy like that since I was a kid. It cost me over 1000.00 the night my 4lbs Yorkie lost his eye. If it hadn't been for a health care credit options I would have had to put him down.

I had a rescue Chow-Chow how was incontinent, that I had to put down not long ago, and It was like a 160 at my vet to euthanize her. Just a side note I am a client of the least expensive, older vets in town. He is also the most practical one too. It was nearly 80 at the Humane Society, and I finally found the City of Seattle's AC would do it for 20.00. So my daughter got the Chow for a day, and we went with that option given that the dog had lived most of her life in the city.
It seems that for the most part that living on the coasts of America cost more than living in the Central parts of it, or it could be just a city thing.
