$$$What is the most expensive chicken you have brought or sold?$$$

10.00 each for a Blue Marans and Silver Lakenvelder hens.

Then there was a very elderly roo that I took to the vet that ended up being 150.00 for a roo that the next door neighbor had given us. He recovered that time, but it wasn't more than a month or two before it happened again.

It turns out I had a young Roo that was challenging the old man. Neither one of them made it that day.

Actually it is not so much that Ganoi (actually 2 different breeds: Ga Don and Ga Cua) are so rare (excepting Ga Cua with are extremely rare). It is that they are kept very tightly by the Vientamese community within the US and Canada.

They are indeed very difficult to obtain by non-Vietanmese Americans.

Congrats that you have them.

Are you raising Ga Don or Ga Cua?

how can i tell the difference, I made a lucky guess on what they where, he was very suprised I did. one is a necked neck one is not right? if so mine are not

Ga Don and Ga Cua look very different. Ga Don would be comparable to something like a Shamo or Malay in size. Ga Cua look very similar to a Cubalaya......... there are lots of differences but I'm generalizing here about body type.

Are you certain it is Ga Noi you have? Some folks have been passing off Naked neck x Shamos as Ga Noi.

If it is Ga Noi, the first thing you will notice is that it has feather folicles in the naked zones: things crossed with a naked neck typically have some skin.

not telling for fear my hubby might read this thread!

Besides it's a hobby like his fishing and hunting is to him.

Also, I have some great chicken friends who have given me terrific birds and some friends who have swapped birds or are in breeding programs with.

Huh Uh No Way are you getting a number out of me

I paid $20 and drove 5 hours to pick up a bufflaced polish roo. well worth it.

the best bargain was my lavender orps I paid $5 a piece for 3 pullets and a roo at 6 weeks old. right now I'm waiting on some black orps from hinkjc to improve the type.

I bide my time when looking for new birds and go for really good deals. Best deals I found were $5.00 red sex-link pullets just starting to lay and good pet quality 3 month old Silkie chicks for $2.00. Both found on Craigslist in the fall.

Most expensive birds I've purchased were chicks which worked out to be about $10.00 each when including birds, and mileage on my car.

The most expensive I've sold is $10.00.

Of course, I don't work with show quality birds. I would pay more if that were my goal.

$1200 in vet bills for two hens (Silver Laced Wyanndotte and a Barred Rock) following a horrific dog attack. Both survived but the eggs they lay need to be gold to pay me back! (original purchase price $3.00 each as chicks)
