What is the purpose of backyard chickens?

Anyway...

I love BYC. Some days I am in to random ramblings, some days I just need info. It is quite easy to go to specific areas and get what I need. On the few occasions I can't, I start a new thread, PM one of the local gurus, or practice my google fu. Sometimes I ask questions nobody has the answer to. (I'm weird, so this doesn't surprise or annoy me

)

Nobody is obligated to help me. I am not obligated to help anyone else. People exchange information when and if they want to. I honestly don't see a problem with that.

About answering questions, I think most know how many questions I have answered here on BYC (check my post count--most of those were not threads I started). I have answered the same basic questions over and over again and usually, do not mind. Some days, I am burnt out answering the same ones and just don't because I know that there is much experience here and the question would be answered by someone who may have more patience at the moment. If not, the search feature is awesome here. If I dont know the answer, I don't post just to say I don't know, though, daily I get Pms asking me to look at this or that thread, then I have to say I didn't post because I do not know the answer.
I'm human, I get tired, I get frustrated and I even get angry, though I try to maintain my tact when I do, but I hope no one feels unwelcome because of something I said on a bad day.

(I did spend some time writing up Speckledhen's Ten Commandments of Good Flock Management from the thousands of repeat questions I am asked, and one point got so much argument that I may not try to do that type thing again, LOL.)

Ma Kettle, there are many areas here where I do not fit in. With 26000 members, it's hard to fit in with everyone. Don't leave, just go where you want on the forum and ignore the rest. I don't know how else to help you with this.

Thank you, everyone, for your participation in this thread.

Obviously, BYC means different things for different people. What we all have to remember is that that's perfectly okay. This site is here as a resource for everyone who wants chickens in their backyard, and as a place for our members to socialize if they so choose.

However you use BYC, we're very glad you're all here as a part of our wonderful community!

On that note, though... I do agree that it's important for all of us who have been here a while to make the best effort possible to help new members feel welcome and a "part of the group." This may include reaching out to others by answering their questions, or by spending time in the "New Member Introductions" area just saying hello when you have time in your busy schedule to do so.

It also means promoting a friendly and welcoming community by being respectful of all of our members at all times.

Of course, new members shouldn't feel shy about reaching out and jumping into the conversation, either. You don't need an invitation, so feel free to start posting whenever and wherever you'd like!
