What is the purpose of raising quail?

So let's say you have a family of four. You also have four relatives that would really really like to partake in the nom noms. How many quail would you start with?

ETA... my turner will hold 100 quail e-ggs!!

I thought it was strange too, to raise quail... I have a billion quail running wild in my backyard...

The little eggs sound fun though :}

quail can make you some money also it is a stress reliever that can be inside rather then outsid elike most chickens, alot of people are ristricted from having chickens due to city ordinance but quail are smaller so they are not considered livestock

mostly for their eggs (e ggs I AM GETTING annoyed by ap ril fo ols i cannot wait until it's oooverrrrr lol), however if you sold them live for meat purposes (and hunting purposes) yes you could make some good money. I have one customer attached to my culls like a leach. He wants any and all I dont want for his beagle kennel (he wont hunt them but he'll sell them to customers who want birds for flush training).

Seriously? The e-ggs? I figured because they were so little people wouldn't be interested in them for eating. Or are these for hatching? Fill me in.

Well on BYC most want them for hatching, but many families note that their children that dont like normal e*ggs go ga ga for quail e*ggs they ARE sweeter than normal chicken e*ggs so it's not too suprising. They make fun little treats for young and old too. My aunt plans to buy some from me for the resturant she's a chef in.

Sweeter? Awesome. I wonder if there are any Quail E-gg Cookie, Cake or Bread recipes out there!

If not, maybe us BYC'rs should make a cook book.

Now I can't wait to get some e-ggs. Gotta wait until my other e-ggs have hatched. Guess I should start building some cages!

What kind of coturnix do you have? I'd like ones we can get a decent amount of meat off of and ones that would, of course, lay well.

I've been sifting through your massive Quail thread quite a bit today.
