What is the purpose of raising quail?

I did a lot of research before I got e.ggs to hatch - *Jumbo* coturnix is what I decided on for the size - for e.ggs and meat

Right now I'm considering only keeping the browns so I don't get attached to any! LOL!

i'm going to be raising some just for meat & eggs. a few to keep around and breed. i've also got baby button quail i'm keeping just because they're cute.

quail eggs are DELICIOUS! when i get eggs in the mail, if there are some that are just a tad cracked i eat them. the firs time i had a coturnix egg i was tempted to eat the others i got in the mail! they are simply delicious in comparison to the eggs i get from my girls although my girls do lay some yummy eggs.

Wow! I'll have to be patient and wait.

At least 6-8 weeks or so for eggs isn't that bad of a wait, as compared to my chickens.

Week 21 and nothing yet!

bkvail, that's what I was thinking too. There are so many cute and pretty ones out there... then again, if the A & Ms have light meat as opposed to dark meat, I might consider them too. My hubby prefers light meat.

macnugget, that is awesome! Not many Asian folk around here though. I'll have to tempt the locals with some freebies just so they get used to the taste.

KattyKillFish, you're making me hungry.

they start laying sooner and VERY frequently! i also got A&Ms for the same reason, but also because they're cute.

it won't take a lot to tempt the locals, just boil some of for them, the size and taste will get them right away!

my coturnix will be hatching sometime around Friday, give or take. i just can't wait!

yep, valley quail are certainly quails, in fact they are the kind that my boyfriend wants, just because they have the "doodley" on the head. i hear they are great meat birds. i would check up on how long to incubate them, try doing a google search!

I have been doing some studying on it and I am going to try to raise a bunch. I have eatin them many times before and they taste great, the eggs are considered fine fair in good resturants. I would like to try and find some jumbo's somewhere, hatch them out and have great dinners.

All righty then. I think it's A & Ms and Valley for us!!

Yeah the doodley is cute.

Aaaagh! I swear, I'm not going to raise anything else this year. The birds are it!

Cass,
I will put the icing on the cake for you later today, We just stopped turning 96 eggs on Tuesday and yesterday they hatched and some were still hatching this morning. I got a pic of them last night but haven't run it thru the page mill yet. I have no idea how many hatched but there was a bunch! The pics of the little ones should push you over the edge and have you ordering quail. lol
