What is the quickest way to cull chickens?

That's certainly something to consider, that keeping these ill chickens around may put your other birds at serious risk. The right thing to do isn't always the easiest thing...

Have you ever faced this issue with your rabbits? What do you do for them when one must be humanely dispatched?

I'm so very sorry.

I just keep thinking about you, and then wondering if next time I open the email I'm going to get an update that will lead me to a message saying you've done it.

The wait is awful, the deed is awful, the fact that it has to be done is awful - it's just all regrettable. I just wish there was something else I could do to help.

wow, i dont believe there is 1 true fastest way to do the deed.
i think the fastest way weould be the one you are most comfortable with.
mine personally is to lay there head on a stump, or in a killing cone and make a quick clean cut,
note if they are meat birds dont let them flap around as they will mess up there wings, use a killing cone

Hi there Sunny_Side_Up. I have never had to put a rabbit down because of illness. We have had them die , but not from a illness. I guess I was more careful with the rabbits. I didn't realize I had to be so careful with chickens.

Hi there again threehorses. We have not done it yet. Tonight or tomorrow. I do not plan on being outside when it happens. I have been feeding them some extra snacks trying to make their last days good as I can. I know what we are gonna do is for the best even though it is killing me. I just stood there and stared at them this morning and I was just thinking maybe.....maybe there is something we can do besides cull them. If I want to have chickens I guess I can't have these hens around though cause they will always carry this illness with them. The longer I keep them the more chance I have of one of them coming in contact with my other birds. And I just can't seem to get the hens better no matter how many shots we give them or how many mixtures of water I give them.

Something weird is after all this 2 of the chickens never seemed sick. Cotton top & Molly. They did live with all the other sick chickens though. Seems unfair to cull them too.

gassing them is not what i would do at all the poor chicken suffocates and dies a slow death i would just chop head off i know i know it sounds terrible but it is quick and would be easiest on the chicken

I truly understand your pain and I am so sorry.

I have to cull all of mine tomorrow because of MS. I can't do any of the "normal" ways because they were too difficult for me to do (emotionally and physically). I contacted my vet and he's going to inject them for me. This was the only way I could. Most of the people around me think I'm silly, but it was the only way I could.

Do the way you are comfortable with and my prayers are with you and yours.

I don't see how getting your head chopped off is painless, would you want your head chopped off? Maybe quick but they still are gonna feel a momment of panic, fear and then a momment of pain.
I used a old cooler made a wire bottom filled the bottom half with baking soda and peroxide and put a fuzzy towl over that and placed my Felix on top of that and closed the lid quietly. Course my birds are used to being put in closed cages for travel and stuff so she was sorta already used to it. Sorry about your girl

Mzfancichicks I am really sorry for you too. I didn't get chickens to eventually have to kill them. My feathered friends could have lived here on my 5 acres forever long as they were well. I bet people think I am silly too. I have been going on and on about this when most people rasie chickens to just kill them and eat them.
