What is the quickest way to cull chickens?

I'm not sure I have much advice to offer - just chiming in for moral support. What a difficult decision to make, oh my goodness!

I have thought about this too.....wondering if I would be able to "do the deed" if necessary.

I like the idea of holding them under one arm and soothing them to make their last moments as peaceful as possible. I've also heard one person can hold while the other does the deed.

Or perhaps you could cull as few as possible, then get a necropsy to get more info. about the situation?

But I'm only able to logically think about this because my chix are healthy.

Good luck and hugs....

The people in my office think I have "lost it". They were great towards me this morning when I had my "melt down" but later they couldn't help giving me a hard time. They mean well but don't understand. I've had these 6-7 weeks maybe. No, I didn't spend all this money and time to just put them to sleep either. The hardest part is they are doing wonderful at the moment. I just couldn't take a chance on it getting out anywhere around here. Have you talked to your state vet yet? or had a necropsy done? It may not be as bad as you think. The vet that did mine was at the university and he said he did the first one free for "backyard flock" owners. He was wonderful!!!! He ran all the tests he could before he told me what it was. It took a week, but I know for sure what it is now. Every state has their own "reportable" diseases and the state vet will talk to you about what YOU want to do and what he suggests.
It is actually better to know for sure before letting go of them. This is JMO though. You need to do what you think is best.
