What is this behavior? Pullet sitting on top of fence clicking loudly.

That's the sound my hens make right after they lay an egg.

My husband seems to think they are laying somewhere other than the coop. They free range.

My hens do that a lot, I had to lock them up until after noon. Maybe try getting some fake eggs and putting them in the nesting boxes? That might encourage them to lay in the right place.

Yep sounds like an egg song, but pullets, or hens will also use this as an alarm call, or to call out to the flock if she's lost.

I have some golf balls in the nesting boxes but right now my pullets can fly out of their run :/ working on this. I’ll try to leave them in until after noon tomorrow and see how it goes!
