What is this chick.. the feed store said black maran but it has not leg feathers

I have gotten Maran eggs and hatched them---most born without feathered legs. Then I have gotten maran eggs from a Good Breeder and all the chicks hatched had feathered legs. I am no maran expert but I feel a GOOD Line Maran will have feathered legs. The non feathered leg ones I raised did not lay as dark of eggs as the better line did. Maybe a Maran expert will post their knowledge.

Not all marans have feathered legs. Some do, some don't, especially in America. Mine did, but I've read some American breeders don't like the feathered legs, especially in the cold and wet.

Yes, Friends and I have gotten black copper marans and blue splash marans from My Pet Chicken and ALL had feathered legs and so do many of their olive egger descendants I've hatched. I think they were around $10.00 a pullet chick but I couldn't find either breed anywhere local.

My hatchery marans have been fair layers of light brown eggs and go broody at least 3 times a summer. Definitely not as advertised.

Here's a Marans. Feather legged or not, they have the white underbelly when hatched....

I can't wrap my head around a "feed store" selling black marans in the first place.
