Don't take my entire word for it, but I think she may be a blue laced red or silver laced red Wyandotte.

As to what she's thinking? Its a Wisconsin poem... (I know u are most likely not of Wisconsin, but you can sub your state in for Wisconsin..)

It's winter in Wisconsin
And the gentle breezes blow
Seventy miles an hour
At twenty-five below.
Oh, how I love Wisconsin
When the snow's up to your butt
You take a breath of winter
And your nose gets frozen shut.
Yes, the weather here is wonderful
So I guess I'll hang around
I could never leave Wisconsin
'Cause I'm frozen to the ground!

You were right on your first response..it is a Kingfisher...I found it in the water mill here by chance..it was exhausted...caught it and released it back into the wild where it belongs..it flew off and I hope it lives a long and happy life here...we have quite a few of them that fish here..they are the most amazing birds...

To me it was an incredible few moments when I rescued it and held it in my hand...I have never been that close to one before...thought I would share..
