What is this fella? What can you tell me?! :)

I agree with standard size RIR that's molting. He'll appreciate some extra protein to help grow them feathers back.
I think I agree. :thumbsup I may not be able to tell the difference between a RIR boy, production red, or New Hamshire... well enough to know which I think while he is in molt.

Note feathers are made from 90% protein and it's amino acids. Balanced formulated ration is still best... a little extra animal protein would rock... animal sources contain the needed amino acids... they are added into our vegetarian based feeds that many of us use. Too much corn, scratch, or other low nutrient snacks will delay his recovery from molt.

He does NOT look ANY Turken to me... though that's good brain storming! :clap

Since you are gonna check into his legs... also try to see if the skin is angry near the vent or pretty normal. Does he come to you and allow handling?

Do you have other chickens already? Are you thinking about posting a found sign anywhere? A good rooster would be a great loss to my flock... OR a great addition!

Attack could have been possible... I think freshly pulled feathers would leave the skin looking bad. It is possible the skin already recovered but new feathers won't return until molt... but it does look pretty much like molt. Can other's see pin feathers that I can't make out due to my poor eyesight?

He does not allow me to handle him - I'm not sure I would even know how! He does come to me mainly I think because I kept offering him different foods trying to see what he would be interested in! We have family that keep chickens and roosters and they return from vacation this next weekend - we're hoping that either they'll need a Rooster and we can visit him - or they'll be available to advise us on how best to keep him :)
