What is this? Graphic (sort-of) dead bird pic.

This is a bird I saw squished in a parking lot today. I admit I am not really familiar with a lot of the local wild birds. This is one I am pretty sure I have never seen. The color is wrong to be a blue bird...it really is turquoise. Whatever he is, he would have been an absolute stunning beauty alive.

Poor little guy. Does anyone know what he might be?

The beak looks like a Grosbeak or a Bunting.

wow, that would be a stunning and beautiful bird if it were alive and less...well...smooshed.

i think the poor dear was a mountain bluebird. but maybe not because that one has shinier feathers. beak looks shorter and stubbier, too but that might be because it's smooshed?

Yeah, it is a short, sort-of thick, straight beak. The skin and beak are all black from what I could tell. I didn't poke around at it too much for obvious reasons. My kids and I are all for examining roadkill but we prefer it a bit more fresh. LOL

I vote grosbeak because of the big fat beak (gros means fat in French).

I don't think it's a bluebird. Beak looks intact and it has black on it's head.
