What is this? Graphic (sort-of) dead bird pic.

Yeah, I am thinking you are pretty close if not spot-on, preppy. Though he was badly damaged, the beak was not flattened or anything. He looks to have a bit of brown on his wings too, we just didn't flip him to see what his back looked like.

He had been ran over in a parking lot.

It seems sad to me, I always slow up and wait for the little birds to move. With that color he would have been hard to miss. Seems a shame the only one I have ever seen was in this condition.

Ew - can't fault you there!

When I was a kid we noticed Dad's grill (car) moving. Dead bird complete w/maggots. I threw up.

EEEEEWWWWW.......things like that are pretty awful!!! We found a gopher like that in our drive one day. I guess a neighbor animal brought it to us. The kids were squealing MOMMMMMMMMMM there is a dead animal moving around in the drive!!!

The beak looks like a Grosbeak or a Bunting.

I agree, the closest I could find in my bird books is a Blue Grosbeak that lives in your area. It says "the male is dark blue with 2 chestnut wing bars and a stout dark beak". What a pretty color!

Sorry about the bird.... I too always slow down......

But the pics are amazing!!!!!!! wish we had them here.......... beautiful!

The color/irredescence points more to indigo bunting to me than a grosbeak...and they do range through AR.

I'm going to guess indigo bunting.. it's about the right time for them to be moving through. Beautiful fast darting birds.

Probably darted out in front of a moving car.
