Don't those live in desert/plain areas in the southwest?

We don't have weasels where we live, thankfully. Our cats are too lazy to go after stuff larger then a lizard.

There are three types of weasels that I know of in the US. Least (somewhat rare), short tailed (also called a stoat), and long tailed. Your cat drug in a weasel. Had it been a martin, your cat would have been in much worse shape if it had come back home at all.

That is amazing.

One of our cats brought in one of these about a week or so ago... Dead on the porch... My mom ran in to get me at like 5 am and was saying something like "the cats brought in one of those rodent things"

When I was preparing to get chicks I was doing some research on various predators in our area and came across the weasel. My mom and I were freaked out because one of the articles I read said that if you find dead chickens that look like they just fell over and died in the night, it could have been weasels since they do not drag away bodies, just drain the birds of blood. My dad said that he had never seen one of those around here and that I was overreacting... That was about 8 months ago...

Then my mom emails him a picture of the "rodent thing".

Now we pick on him for not believing us.

What is interesting is that if you have weasels they normally feed on rats and mice so farmers generally like having them around... I'd rather not have any rodents whatsoever...

But anyway... It was a great catch by your feline friend...

An Ermine IS a Stoat, same creature but in winter the coat turns white for snow camouflage. Correct on the Marten observation though, they are a little heftier in build. and generally darker skinned Any variety of the Weasel family is pretty ferocious and will take on and kill any chicken or rooster with no problem, iv'e even seen them attack dogs !!! 18lbs or not, that cat did very well to take that sucker down.

Chris.
