We've only had our beef cows for about 4 years and I honestly couldn't see what was wrong with him from that picture alone. Maybe it's my eyes...

Cricket, it looks like ringworm and it is easily treated. Try some anti-fungal cream from the drugstore. Just slather it on those spots and keep it on there. It is very contagious, so wash afterwards. Poor guy is probably itchy, but the cream will help with that too.......good luck!

I totally agree with tornado8070, it is absolutely ringworm. I also worked as herdsman for a large dairy for almost 15 years. There is an antifungal spray called BlueKote that you can get at any feed store. I know TSC carries it. It is a great antifungal spray for ringworm. Just plain old used motor oil works well also. The ones above the eyes on the calf may become a problem if they get bigger. I have seen ringworm get so bad on a calves eyes that it pushes the lids down over the eyes of the calves. Warts would have a more raised appearance then ringworm. I've seen this problem more times than I can count unfortunately. It's not life threatening but can just be a nuisance for the calf and for anyone who touches him. Good luck!!! That sure is a good looking calf though. You're doin a great job.

I agree on ringworm. If the iodine doesn't kill it, Coppertox will. Coppertox is for treating thrush in horses feet, but it will anihilate ringworm as well. It stinks and will stick to everything, and wear rubber gloves when you apply it, but it works.

Hi there, it is most certainly ringworm. If it hasn't gone away yet, I would suggest pasturing him out in the sun. A lot of times the sun will clear it up. It's one of those things that is really hard to get rid of, you basically have to let it run it's course. It will probably spread, but it will eventually go away. I have an 8 month old heifer with it right now. She started off with a small one by her eye like your calf, but now it's spread to most of her head. It's nothing to panic about, just be sure to wash your hands after you touch him. And if you have other animals, especially cows, you should separate them and make sure you clean his stall before you put another animal in there.
