What is this Scabby & Enlarged Thing on Roo's Chest?

Pics
Because it is likely that the wide roost bar was part or all of the reason our BJG got this horrible breast blister, we turned the top 3 roost bars to the narrow side (of the 2x4). We added a 5th roost at the very top - it is fixed to the studs and does not impede the ability to fully raise the ladder roosts out of the way for cleaning. The birds, of course, love the higher perch! You can see that when we remove the wind barrier for the summer months (the area above the wall studs covered in HWC), they will still be below the opening and out of the main winds. Our BJG with the breast blister is on the second roost, next to the wall. I would guess the reason he is not on the highest roost has to do with his size - the top roost is a full 12" away from the wall, but only about 8.5" away at the studs. Happily, all feet are covered for the night when they are sitting!

We did leave the bottom roost on the wide side, since it is only about 18" off the floor, and mainly serves as a place to hop up, onto the remaining roosts.

Just looked up Marans in the APA book bc I was curious as to the size of the Marans since I don't have any, and haven't really seen any in person. Standard weight for a Maran cock is 8 lbs. Standard weight for a BJG cock is 13 lbs. My BJG with this breast blister is just shy of 1 year old and is just under 11lbs, and is still expected to grow. Also, I don't know how much the BCM and BJG differ in breast shape and size. Since the BJG were bred for meat initially, it is possible that the breast on the BJG is shaped differently than the BCM, such that the extra size/weight and shape of the BJG do not seem to be compatible with a wide, flat roost bar. Hopefully this breast blister fully heals on this BJG!

Update! It's been 3.5 weeks. After the above treatments, and roost bar adjustments, we let the rooster to let his own body work on the infection as it was improving and we wanted to see where it would be at in a couple of weeks.

Today, it is looking better, and quite a bit smaller. It no longer hangs off his chest like a deflated balloon. There seems to be some puss that could be cleaned off, and might find we need to do one more draining session of a puss pocket - won't know till we clean it up first. I cant get to it until probably this weekend since I need an adult to assist (rather than my tween child) with any kind of cutting. Also, he is feeling much better, so is feistier and a bit harder to handle. Best pic I could get!
