What is this? She/he is only a week older then the others, she/he only has a few feathers on the bottom part of her wing., and is so much bigger.

Cornish cross or turkey poult. I'm undecided.

I thought turkey too, but it doesn't have that bump on his/her head. I thought turkey chicks had a bump. I hope its a turkey, that would be a great surprise. I guess time will tell.

I am not sure why her feathers are so very slow to come in or why she is so big.

What was she sold to you as?

She was an extra they put in the bunch so I have no idea.

Hilltop hatchery in Southern California. I chose this place because its close, about 60min away from my place.

Their website says turkeys mid march as earliest availability so not likely.

It's not nearly as big as I would expect of a 6 week old cornish cross so I will go with not likely.

It's certainly not as feathered as a 6 week old should be as you already noticed.

Oh okay. So definitely not a Cornish cross. Mine are 2.5 weeks and about the same size, half feathered.

I mean I guess eventually you will find out when it feathers out more . I wonder if its just some mutant chick. You can probably email the hatchery or call them and see what they think.
