Red, prune it after the leaved drop.

Salix integra, dapped willow or Nishiki willow. You can not kill it. I have 3 planted in back of one of my lofts. I prune it every spring and by autumn it is 6' tall again. Very attractive and hardy plant. Just planted 6 around the dog kennels. Let Imp hack away and all will be fine.

P.S. Water snakes love to rest in the shade that they create.
