Wait a minute... I thought ameraucanas had to have green legs, not slate...and the earlobes of my "ameraucanas" have some white and blue in them... I am so confused.

And so if the bird has any trait different than what was listed, that makes it an EE?

Thank you, speckledhen! The link clears up a lot for me! So, I guess that means that I don't have ameraucanas. *sniff, sniff*

Mine lays blue eggs, but doesn't have a recognized feather pattern, and has green legs. The guy on your link says you can't trust hatcheries that label their birds with misspelled names, or things like "ameraucana/araucana/easter egger". Ideal labeled them as "ameraucana, also called Easter Egger". i suppose then mine's actually an Easter Egger.

My "Ameraucanas" all look like that golden reddish color of the birds in these pics. I bought them from Ideal and some have hatched from different blue eggs.

The Ideal ones were, of course, sold as Ameraucanas but are probably the EE variety.

But if they all have this same golden reddish color... then aren't they sort of a breed or type???

What are the breeding together to get this coloring?

I will take some pics of my 6 week olds tomorrow and post along with their chick pics.

I honestly find color to be the most confusing things about chickens!
