What is this???

My first thought, like Sally Sunshine said, was favus gone extreme. I had a rooster come to me with a mild case of it, but it was more like peeling skin. You have to use a fungal cream/ointment on that, but I'm not 100% sure that's what this is on your hen. That is all over her. Seems that would need a vet's input to be sure since it's so far gone.

Abstract

Favus, or avian ringworm, was diagnosed in a backyard flock of game chickens from which Microsporum gallinae was isolated. Infected birds had white crusts on the comb and on the skin of the head and neck. Histopathological lesions included hyperkeratosis of the skin epithelium with invasion of the stratum corneum by fungal mycelia, acanthosis, acantholysis, and hydropic degeneration of cells in the stratum spinosum. The underlying dermis was infiltrated by mononuclear cells and contained lymphoid foci. Daily topical treatment with miconazole was applied in the field and in the laboratory, with apparent success.

Posting for a friend...Does anyone know what this is and how to treat it? I don't know much about her condition other than having the pictures and that the hen is lethargic.

Finally some answers. She found a vet that would see her hen. He did some skin scrapings and it is a bacterial infection and a yeast infection. She's on antibiotics and also a special wash. Thanks for your interest!
@Aime137 , Happy Thanksgiving!

Favor... can you ask your friend what drugs the vet prescribed?

She said, "No idea how started. The medicine is TRNZ LIQUID PEROC? it looks like the pink children's medicine amoxicillin."

Hmmm... I just tried searching for that and came up with nothing. Would like to know what it is in case I ever see something like what her hen has in one of mine. :D

Quote: That's odd that it's both. I do recall, though, that following a fungal lung infection, one of my hens developed a secondary bacterial sinusitis later. Usually, something fungal should not be treated with antibiotics, but something like Metronidazole, an anti-fungal. They say antibiotics can sometimes make a fungal infection worse. I hope she responds to the meds and recovers. Poor thing looks miserable.

The rooster I mentioned was the only bird I ever bought as an adult. He had been kept in a wet, dark pen in the woods with a turkey and fed only corn. He had lice, favus and malnutrition. The favus presented like peeling sheets of skin from his face, wattles and comb and I treated with a fungal cream, can't recall which one. He recovered just fine from all his issues so hopefully, your girl will, too.

I searched also and found nothing, but that is what it is labeled. Maybe the vet made up the name and really did just give her children's amoxicillin?!
She is bathing twice a day in iodine.
