I knew I had seen it before, a long time ago when I ran power to a garage, the box had to be taken apart, and the previous owners of the house had used a connector like that to bypass the meter so they could run the AC unit for free. We ended up hooking the AC unit up to an old electric dryer plug so it would go through the meter.

Ha what a bunch of buggers doing that.

It's just an old time wire connector.... when you said AC unit I didn't think of it being used that way since the condensing unit doesn't have leads to connect to. Didn't think of a window unit
